How name and tag combos work
Since Riot IDs replaced summoner names, your identity is a name plus a tag (like Faker#KR1) — and only the full combination has to be unique. That flipped name hunting on its head: instead of waiting years for a name to expire, you can usually take the exact name you want today by picking a free tag.
Tags are 3-5 letters or numbers. Some players match their tag to their name, some use their region, birth year, or role — the combos above are proven favourites. Checking a combo is free and instant, and if it exists we'll show you the account's history instead.
Frequently asked questions
Is any name really obtainable?
Almost — Riot blocks offensive names and treats accented look-alikes as the same name, but if a name passes those rules, some tag for it is nearly always free.
Can I take a specific name#tag that's in use?
Only if its owner renames. Track the combo in our tracker to see its history and current holder.
