LoL Ranks in Order: Every Tier from Iron to Challenger

League of Legends ranked has ten tiers. Here they are in order from lowest to highest, with how divisions, LP and the top three tiers work, checked against Riot's own support pages.

The ranks in order, lowest to highest

Iron is the lowest rank and Challenger the highest. The seven tiers from Iron to Diamond are each split into four divisions, numbered IV, III, II and I, where IV is the bottom of the tier and I the top. Master, Grandmaster and Challenger have no divisions: players there are ranked on LP alone.

#TierDivisions
1IronIV, III, II, I
2BronzeIV, III, II, I
3SilverIV, III, II, I
4GoldIV, III, II, I
5PlatinumIV, III, II, I
6EmeraldIV, III, II, I
7DiamondIV, III, II, I
8MasterNone, LP only
9GrandmasterNone, LP only
10ChallengerNone, LP only

Inside a division you move between 0 and 100 LP, and you climb one division at a time: Silver III, then Silver II, then Silver I, then Gold IV. Solo/Duo and Flex are separate ladders, so one account can hold a different rank in each.

The highest rank: Challenger

Master, Grandmaster and Challenger are the apex tiers, and Riot runs them as a single division league with no upper limit on LP. Reaching Master works like any other promotion: get to 100 LP in Diamond I. Grandmaster and Challenger are different, because each region has a maximum number of players in each, set separately for Solo/Duo and Flex.

To be promoted to Grandmaster you need at least 400 LP and more LP than the lowest Grandmaster player in your region. Challenger needs at least 800 LP and more than the lowest Challenger player. The standings are recalculated once a day, so the cutoff, the LP of the lowest player in the tier, moves with the ladder and is set separately on every server.

For today's figures, open the LP cutoff page for your region or the Solo/Duo LP leaderboard. lols.gg reads both from Riot's API every day. EUW Challenger and Grandmaster LP Cutoff · Solo/Duo LP

How LP, promotion and demotion work

Every ranked win adds LP and every loss takes some away. The amount is not fixed: it depends on how your hidden MMR compares with your rank. When the two agree, wins and losses roughly cancel out. When your MMR is higher than your rank, wins pay more and losses cost less, which is common at the start of a season.

Breaking 100 LP promotes you to the next division straight away, and any LP over 100 carries over. Reaching 100 LP in division I takes you into the next tier. There are no promotion series any more: Riot removed them in 2023, in the same update that added Emerald between Platinum and Diamond.

Losing more LP than you have drops you a division, and you keep the difference: at 5 LP in Silver III, a 20 LP loss leaves you at 85 LP in Silver IV. Dropping a whole tier has protection, and when it does happen you land at 25, 50 or 75 LP in the tier below, depending on how far your estimated skill is from your rank. After a promotion into Master, your first three games are protected from demotion.

Each year's ladder starts with five placement matches in every ranked queue. You cannot lose LP in placements, and nobody can place higher than Diamond III.

From Diamond up, rank decays if you stop playing. Every ranked game banks days of protection, and once they run out a Diamond player loses 50 LP per decay and an apex player loses 75 LP. Below Diamond there is no decay.

Where MMR fits

MMR is the hidden rating Riot uses for matchmaking, and your rank is its visible side. Riot does not publish it, so lols.gg does not try to show or estimate it. What is MMR in League of Legends?
